Biography
Allan studied with two very fine artists, Richard F. Lack
and R H Ives Gammell. The early years were spent working from
nature and carefully studying the Masters which entailed copies
from original masterpieces. The painting process became
more a search for finding a way of seeing nature than simply recording
nature. Sorolla captured the sentiment best as he
states that through specific works he recognized a major
breakthrough happening over the course of his life's work on a couple
occasions.
I tend to agree with that perspective.
